AI is changing UX/UI product design.
Here's what that actually means for your career.

If you've been researching a move into UX/UI design, you've probably seen the noise: AI is replacing designers and roles are disappearing. The data says otherwise: the market is stabilising.1 Here's what that looks like in practice:

Demand is holding

82%

of design leaders say their organisation's need for designers has stayed the same or grown, with nearly half saying it's increased 2

What's being asked of designers has changed

“Adaptability, strategy and discernment are the skills that will serve designers best going forward.” 1

The takeaway is simple: craft alone no longer sets you apart. What does is judgement: understanding real user needs, working under ambiguity, and shaping what gets built, not just how it looks.

This programme is built around developing exactly that – design craft, research and product thinking, together.

Who is this programme for?

THE CAREER ACCELERATOR DIFFERENCE

Why choose a Career Accelerator

Not a bootcamp. Not a degree. It's a Career Accelerator: a six-month structured, intensive programme built around one goal: making you the AI-fluent, research-led product designer employers need, faster.

You develop as a complete design professional – not just technical craft, but user research, AI-integrated workflows and the confidence to carry it all into a business – backed by King's and dedicated career coaching.

Build a standout portfolio that proves what you can do

A strong portfolio is a big reason UX/UI designers get hired, so it sits at the heart of the programme. Master the design process, then prove it on an Employer Project with a partner like Figma or Dropbox – leaving with a job-ready portfolio.

Build the complete product design skillset

Develop the full craft – research, design, prototyping, testing and optimisation – with AI integrated throughout. You leave a complete, current product designer with the judgement and creative eye employers value, not just someone who can use the tools.

Learn from King's academics and industry leaders

The curriculum is designed and delivered by King's College London academics alongside practising design leaders. You get the rigour of a world-renowned university paired with the commercial relevance of people doing the job today.

Supported every step of the way: 12 months of 1:1 career coaching

Work 1:1 with a Career Coach for up to 12 months toward a milestone you agree together, while a dedicated Success Manager keeps you on track with regular check-ins and a study plan built around your life.

Graduates of Career Accelerators have been employed at:

Design superior products and experiences with industry-aligned training and support

This programme is meticulously designed with input from leading industry experts to ensure you develop the most relevant and up-to-date skills.

Course 1: Understanding users

Explore the importance of Product Design in organisational strategy, frame problem statements through product discovery, conduct effective user research, and create data-driven user journey maps. In addition to these foundational technical skills, acquire a number of human skills that are at the core of UX and product design, including empathy, active listening, collaboration, and observation. Learn communication skills and present findings to stakeholders.

Course 2: Designing for user needs

Create wireframes and prototypes using tools like Figma, exploring the iterative process and design principles that shape their creation. Learn how product designers collaborate within Agile teams to discover, visualise, test, and refine ideas, weaving them into user-centred designs.

Course 3: User-centred optimisation

Create high-fidelity UI designs and prototypes in Figma – backed by usability testing, accessibility standards and visual design skills – that wow users. Learn further product design optimisation techniques leveraging data and user feedback, prepare proper design-to-development handoffs and build a high-impact product design portfolio.

Course 4: Employer Project

As a key component of your learning journey, the Employer Project brings together all the skills you've gained from the first three project-based courses. This project is designed in collaboration with our industry partners to give you first-hand experience in addressing real-world product design challenges using the knowledge and skills you've learned.

During these six weeks, every deliverable, every decision you make, mirrors the professional environment, accelerating your practical skills and portfolio development.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Learn AI’s place in product design

In live, weekly sessions, your Facilitator offers practical advice for AI-related topics like:

AI for productivity
Including generative AI, prompt engineering and automation

Research & analysis
AI-powered user insights and behavioral data analysis

Designing with AI
AI-assisted visual design and intelligent prototyping tools

Future of product
Evolving processes like AI-driven workflows and adaptive design systems

AI is here to help you, not replace you

UX is a human-centric field that relies just as much on emotional intelligence as it does on tech, data and analytics. AI tools can’t fully replace human product designers.

Embrace AI for product design

Stay ahead of evolving trends with live AI training in weekly sessions with facilitators – exploring the key areas of AI impact in UX, UI and product design.

Develop a top-priority skill

No matter the product you’re building, an intuitive user experience matters. That’s why it’s one of the top skill priorities for businesses.2

Be more than your tech

Learn to design (and think) with focus and intention, as only a human can. The right approach for the problem will always find a superior solution.

Feel supported, always

Adapting at pace isn’t easy. Your support team of coaches, success managers and tutors ensures you feel equally challenged and motivated.

“The one thing (AI) isn’t really able to provide is that human empathy and interaction, which is quite crucial for UX because you’re thinking about how your user is going to feel or how you want their actual overall experience to be when using a product, app or website. I’m quite confident in saying that I don’t think AI is going to take over anytime soon.”

Tools you’ll be exposed to

Figma is used throughout the programme, but you’ll be encouraged to apply universal design principles to a range of industry tools.

“This course isn’t teaching book smartness, it’s guiding you through the theory, logic, challenges and implementation of UX. It’s a springboard for a great career focused on user centricity and outcomes.”

Earn a certificate that means something

This is not an open-enrolment, low-commitment course that just ticks off a list of required skills. It’s a Career Accelerator.

You’ll learn design thinking, not just how to use design tools. You’ll dive into the nature of UX problems, not just attempt to solve them blindly.
You’ll learn more than nuts and bolts – you’ll learn how to put it all together.

And that’s why you’ll be awarded an official certificate from a top 5 ranked university in the UK: King’s College London.4

A master's degree is a credit-bearing postgraduate qualification, typically requiring one to two years full-time or two to three years part-time. It is usually assessed through examinations and or a dissertation, and confers a recognised academic award within the UK qualifications framework.

This programme takes a different approach. It is a six-month, part-time programme with no academic exams or dissertation, designed for people who want to build practical UX and UI product design skills and move into the field with confidence. You'll learn around existing commitments at 15 to 20 hours a week, and you're assessed entirely through applied work: project-based courses, a portfolio you can show employers and a final six-week Employer Project set by a real-world company.

On successful completion, you'll gain a Certificate of Completion from King's College London. If your goal is practical, job-relevant capability and a portfolio that proves it, this programme is designed for exactly that.

Bootcamps are typically short, intensive courses focused on building tools and technical skills at speed, and they suit people who want to learn quickly. They are usually run by private training providers, and most don't carry recognition from an established university.

This programme takes a different approach. It is a six-month, part-time programme developed by King's College London in partnership with FourthRev, designed to build genuine design thinking. You'll learn around existing commitments at 15 to 20 hours a week, work through project-based courses, and build a portfolio you can show employers, finishing with a six-week Employer Project set by a real-world company. You're also supported throughout by a career coach and success manager, so you're supported at every step.

On successful completion, you'll gain a Certificate of Completion from King's College London, a globally respected institution that helps your work stand out to hiring managers. If your goal is practical capability, a credible portfolio and recognition that lasts, this programme is designed for exactly that.
